Trish Hafford-Letchfield

Main Research Areas: Ageing in marginalised communities Biography: I am a qualified nurse and social worker with 18 years practice experience and am currently a Professor of Social Work at the University of Strathclyde. Prior to joining Strathclyde, I was Professor of Social Care at Middlesex University, London where I worked for 11 years. My research interests lie in the experiences of ageing in marginalised communities and most of my research is applied and co-produced with people with lived experience. My doctorate studies were in educational gerontology exploring the role of lifelong learning in care services. I am a keen advocate for the rights of LGBT+ communities and I am a founder member of the international LGBTQI social work international network. In relation to learning and teaching I have written or edited 18 key textbooks covering a range of topics on leadership, management, organisational development, feminism, sexual and gender identities, values and ethics and social work supervision. I have also published widely in other areas such as the use of the arts in professional education, trans and non-binary parenting, suicide and mental health of people living in care homes. I am a PhD Student at the Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. I obtained a BSc Degree in Psychology with a Second-Class Upper Division, B.Ed. in Educational Management/Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Peace and Conflict Studies, from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. I have presented several academic papers both in Africa and Europe. In particular, I presented an academic paper at the 2019 Annual Conference of the European Network on Gender and Violence held in Freiburg, Germany. My abstract has also been accepted for presentation at Kroc Peace Student Conference on the theme titled: 2020 vision: where do we go from here. My abstract has also been accepted at Tomorrow People Organisation 7th Annual Peace and Conflict Resolution Conference [PCRC2020] Bangkok, Thailand, held between December 3rd and 5th 2020. I am currently one of the principal investigators on international project titled: Proposed study on prevalence of sexual violence among secondary schools students in Nigeria. Other collaborators include: Katharina Goessman, Prof Dr Anke Hoeffler, Dr Tobias Hecker. I have won several academic awards. These include: Coimbra Group Scholarship, University of Groningen, Netherlands, Short Stay (2020), West Africa Research Fellowship Award (2020), Federal Government Scholarship (2014), Best Graduating Student in Psychology (2012) and Best Student in Biology and Government (2001). I am currently working as an adjunct lecturer at Atiba University, Oyo Town, Oyo State, Nigeria. I have published academic papers in reputable journals.

Yitschak Shnoor

Biography: Research scholar, Aging Team, Family Group, at the Myers-JDC-Brookdale Institute (MJB). Yitschak Shnoor has worked at MJB since 1995. His main research areas are: work and retirement at an advanced age, special populations among the elderly (LGBTs, Disabled IDF veterans), and the concept of “home” in nursing homes. He is the editor of the Statistical Abstract on the Elderly in Israel, and specializes in the demography of aging and its impact on Israeli society. In recent years, he has addressed the policy of community social services and models for cultural change in old-age homes. Yitschak holds a BA and MA in economics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a PhD in public policy for the elderly from the University of Haifa.
