Who We Are

The Goldsen Institute – Healthy Generations Center unites students, researchers, practitioners, and community partners to spark innovation locally, nationally, and globally. As a dynamic hub for collaboration and knowledge exchange, the Institute drives groundbreaking research and transformative programs that redefine how we address complex social challenges. The Healthy Generations Center turns evidence into action—developing culturally responsive, person-centered programs and trainings that create meaningful and lasting impact.

At The Goldsen Institute, we respond to the changing nature of aging, multigenerational relations and longevity in our society. Through interdisciplinary research, evidence-based programs, training, and strong community partnerships, the Institute collaborates with underserved communities, including adults and their caregivers living with memory loss, LGBTQ+ midlife and older adults, communities of color, those living in under-resourced settings, and those living in rural areas.

We bring together partners to create new knowledge, develop evidence-based tools and practices, and design innovative programs that improve the lives of underserved, yet resilient adults, their families, and their communities. As thought leaders, we shape ideas that influence policy and education that promote healthy aging, social inclusion, and well-being.

The Healthy Generations Center brings a multigenerational perspective to reduce health disparities and promote well-being among underserved communities and across generations. Our Center was established as one of only five original John A. Hartford Foundation Centers of Excellence in Geriatric Social Work in the nation. Fostering local, national and global collaborations, our Center promotes leadership, education, and research to create innovations in aging.

Here at The Goldsen Institute – Healthy Generations Center we:

Create innovative research, education, and community partnerships to promote health, well-being, longevity and aging in underserved, diverse communities.

Translate findings into practical, evidence-based interventions, practices and training for social workers and allied healthcare providers, students, and policy makers.

Collaborate with resilient yet underserved communities, including LGBTQ+ midlife and older adults, communities of color, those living in under-resourced settings, and those living in rural areas.

Foster dialogue and collaboration to shape policy and generate solutions to the urgent issues in aging and care.

Empower family and friend caregivers through Powerful Tools for Caregivers by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to better care for themselves while they care for others.

Spark new ideas and share knowledge through our Innovations in Aging program.

Together, we are building healthier, more connected communities across generations. Our strength comes from collaboration. Working together, we are building a world where people of every age don’t just survive – they thrive!
